Gonzalo Higuain reveals the reason behind his salty celebration against Napoli

Napoli fans are probably the last group of supporters you would want to upset.

Naples is the home of the mafia and the Light Blues’ fans are some of the most passionate in the world.

When their star player and beloved striker Gonzalo Higuaín moved to Juventus, Napoli’s big-spending Serie A rivals, he had already angered the ultras.

With Napoli facing Juventus last night in one of the most anticipated games of the season, with the Serie A title race incredibly close, it could have been a time for Higuaín to keep his head down.

Four teams are separated by just four points in the chase for the Scudetto and Higuaín scored the only goal as Juventus walked away from the Stadio San Paolo with three points.

Higuain was touch-and-go to make the game after undergoing an operation for a fracture in his hand.

However, it wasn’t the goal itself but the way he celebrated that angered the crowd who once adored the Argentine front man.

Instead of just celebrating normally by running towards the fans, Higuaín put his hand up to his brow as if searching for someone in the crowd.

Higuain held no punches when he gave an explanation for his celebration to the press after the game.

“I was looking for De Laurentiis, maybe he hid himself,” said the Juve man.

The swipe was aimed at Edoardo De Laurentiis, son of the Napoli owner, who said during the week he hoped Higuain would play so they could ‘stick four goals past him’.

A winning goal in the biggest game of the season probably does more than any words could.

That’s what €90 million will get you.
